Baseboard moulding also know as baseboard trim, skirting board or floor molding is a decorative and functional strip of trim material installed along the bottom of interior walls where they meet the floor

What Baseboard Does
- Covers Gaps : Baseboard trim covers the gap between flooring and drywall caused by expansion, settling, or uneven cuts
- Protects walls : Baseboard trim and moulding protects wall from scuffs, furniture, vacuums, and mops.
- Adds Style and Proportion : The main purpose of baseboards would really be is to decorate and elevate your homes aesthetic.

Baseboard Material
- Wood : Wood baseboard trim is commonly used in custom homes and in areas exposed to moisture or water, as it does not absorb moisture as easily as MDF. It typically comes in solid hardwood or softwood and is often pre-stained or pre-painted.
- MDF : MDF or medium density fiberboard is the most popular material choice used for baseboard installation due to its affordability, ease of use and smooth finish.
Baseboard Styles and Profiles
Baseboard trim styles range from simple flat-stock profiles (modern or minimalistic) to ornate, multi-layered designs with curves, steps, or scallops (traditional or Victorian). Baseboard heights typically range from 3 to 9 inches, with taller options available for a more custom, substantial look.
Additional pieces such as shoe moulding or quarter round are often installed at the bottom of the baseboard to cover gaps caused by uneven flooring. However, these can be omitted if precise scribing is done to follow the floor closely, minimizing gaps beneath the baseboard.
Choosing the right baseboard trim is just as important as selecting the flooring or wall finish. The right profile, height, and material can completely elevate a space when installed correctly.
